GRANTLEY ADAMS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (GAIA INC.)
Leon C. Romero comes to Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. from the position of CEO of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation of Guyana. During his tenure at Cheddi Jagan International Airport he oversaw the critical transition stages of the airport moving from a Government Department to an Airport Authority under an IDB sponsored Air Transport Reform Programme. This will not be the first time that Mr. Romero has worked in Barbados; he previously worked for Caribbean Air Cargo Co. Ltd. (Caricargo) as a manager. A veteran of the aviation industry Mr. Romero has worked in several countries including his native Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic and Canada.
The Director of Operations of GAIA Inc. He comes with a long association with the airport going back as far as 1973 when he started as an Air traffic control officer. He has served in a range of positions at the airport and in the Ministry of International Transport. He has most recently served as the acting Airport Manager. Mr. Johnson has also represented Barbados in a number of fora including being a member of the Caricom High Level Committee on Air Transportation and was also a member of Barbados’ Negotiating Team for Air Services Agreements. He is presently a Board member of the Air Transport Licensing Authority. Mr. Johnson is the current Secretary of the Rotary Club of Barbados. He is married and is the father of two.
Karen Walkes is the former Acting Chief Engineer of the Ministry of International Transport Airport Management Team. She holds a BSc. in Civil Engineering and a MSc. in Construction Management/Structural and also holds a Master of Business Administration with distinction from the University of the West Indies. She has a long association with the Airport stretching back to 1995 when she joined the MDU in the post of Civil Engineer. Ms. Walkes is a member of the Engineering Registration Board and is the Membership Committee Chairperson for the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers. She is also President of the Lions Club of Barbados Central.
Yvette Browne is currently the Director of Human Resources of GAIA Inc. Prior to joining the company, she held the position of Human Resource Manager at Almond Beach and Royal Westmoreland Resorts. Mrs. Browne is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, with a BSc. (Hons.) degree in Applied Sociology and a MSc. in Human Resource Management from the New School for Social Research, New York. She also holds postmaster’s diplomas in Training & Development and Organisational Development. She enjoys going to church, exercising, gardening and jazz.
Henry Barrow, Director of Finance holds a BSc. Management from the University of the West Indies and is a Chartered Accountant with some 30years experience. He has worked with KPMG, Ernst & Young, Shell Antilles & Guianas Limited and Mount Gay Distilleries. Mr. Barrow has also provided private consultancy services to clients in the financial services, hospitality, manufacturing and retail sectors A former Combermerian, Mr. Barrow is married and is the father of four children. He is Vice President of Alpha Swim Club, Treasurer of Harrison College PTA and has represented and captained Barbados for several years at hockey.
